Swanton Abbott is a small, friendly yet developing school situated on the edge of the village. We pride ourselves on being a community school. Our 71 children live mainly in Swanton Abbott and the surrounding villages, but a growing number travel to us by choice from further afield.
We always aim to set high standards. Our last Ofsted report in November 2003 praised the school highly and maintained that ‘the Headteacher, staff and governors are committed to providing the best possible education for pupils’. We provide a broad and balanced curriculum, which we intersperse with extra enjoyable activities such as trips out of school (including residential trips), dramatic and musical performances, special weeks dedicated to particular areas of the curriculum and a wide variety of extra-curricular activities ranging in the past from African drumming and singing to rugby and gymnastics.
We combine old-fashioned good manners and high standards of behaviour with up-to-date teaching using new technology. We are just starting an exciting new building project which will almost double the size of the school and provide two brand new classrooms so that our children will no longer have to work in mobile classrooms. We have a continually updated computer room which enables the teaching of a whole year group at once and a large hall which houses a variety of gym equipment. Our school field is spacious and enables us to teach all aspects of games and athletics. We also have a trim trail, willow house, sand pit, wooded area and play house to help keep our children busy during their playtimes.
If you feel that a secure, friendly environment with high standards could be the place for your child, please feel free to contact us and arrange a visit.
We look forward to meeting you and your children! |
