Saturday 6th October heralded the annual Harvest Supper, which was again held in the village hall. This has been a tradition for many years providing an opportunity for local folk to gather socially to celebrate the safe gathering of the harvest. In recent years it has become a fundraiser towards the ever-increasing costs of running the Parish Church. The PCC is a small band of volunteers and over the years the average age of those attending has significantly increased! We aim to hold several fund raising events over the year in order to contribute to the ‘Parish Share’ and maintain our beautiful historic church for people to worship in and visit.
This year’s Harvest Supper was a complete sell out with tickets at £10.00 for a delicious home made four course meal! The menu included soup, a buffet of meat and fish with salads, apple pie and cream, finished with cheese, mints and coffee.
Entertainment forms an important part of the evening, and we were delighted to invite back, by popular demand, the professional musical trio of Sally and Alan Barnes, accompanied by Linda Ellis. The keyboard and two violins began with the heart rendering harvest hymn ‘Come ye thankful people come’, followed by a rich and varied medley of tunes ranging from film scores through to popular and classical music. The evening ended with a resounding rendition of ‘We plough the fields and scatter’. The evening was ‘pure delight’ for all in attendance and we look forward to enjoying other such village evenings in the future.
The next event planned is the ‘Trees and Cribs’ on December 15th & 16th when the church will be decorated with Christmas trees, lights, and crib scenes. Refreshments and organ recitals will add to this festive event. Do come along and enjoy your beautiful church and help us to keep it maintained and open. We hope to see you all soon.
