Welcome

This section explains how the Parish Council supports village life and also provides an access point to the various agendas, minutes and documents that it deals with. The Council is always delighted to receive feedback from villagers on any topic that impacts on village life and by registering your email with this web site we will be able to provide a more effective service to the community.

The Parish Council meets approximately every 8 weeks; usually in the Village Hall. The council considers various planning applications and, if objections are raised, will present a point of view to the relevant planning authority that make the decisions. Other areas in which the Parish Council is involved are grass cutting, path and play-park maintenance and the allocation of funds to appropriate bodies where there is a tangible benefit for the village.

Villagers are welcome to attend Parish Council meeting. However the Council recommends that villagers who would like to register a matter for discussion should contact the Council in advance so that it can be placed on the next meetings agenda. See below for contact details.

Villagers are also encouraged to sign up to the Swanton Abbott "Voice" e-Mail newsletter. This keeps you informed and enables the Parish Council to canvass the village for its opinion.

Safer Neighbourhood Team in Swanton Abbott

Introducing your new Police Community Support Officer

Hello, My name is Jan Moore and I have been assigned to Swanton Abbott as your Parish Liaison Officer on behalf of the new Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) based at North Walsham. To give you some background on Safer Neighbourhood's, since 1995 every British crime survey shows a fall in overall crime yet around two thirds of people believe that crime has actually risen in the last two years. As a result of this the Government introduced Neighbourhood Policing-This is called Safer Neighbourhoods in Norfolk.
North Walsham SNT consists of a Police Sergeant, 2 Police Constables and 6 Police Community Support Officers (PCSO's). Our role is to tackle your community issues, Antisocial Behavior, criminal damage and other crime related issues and to provide a visible presence within the towns and villages we serve. As Parish liaison my role is to be your single point of contact within the SNT, to allow me to coordinate the teams resources around the 22 parishes we are responsible for. As this is a brief introduction I would welcome details for the next few parish meetings and any issues you would like the SNT to pay attention to. These details can be e-mailed to me using the e-mail address at the top of the page.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Jan.
