Walk 2: Buxton Lodge
8.5 miles
3hrs

Start from the Jolly Farmers car park (S). Head out of the village going over the small bridge, turn left past Scottow Row cottages and follow the run until it takes a shart right. Follow the footpath sign over the gate and across some rough pasture keeping to the left. Go through a gate still keeping to the left and eventually you come out onto a road opposite The Goat pub. Turn right and just where the road forks turn right (1) into a farmyard. Go straight ahead and after a short distance the track become a path with a hedge running parallel to it.

Follow this path which takes a sharp right and drops gently towards buidings in the corner of the field. The path becomes a clear track between buildings that start to climb, passing a hall in your left and eventually coming out at a junction with a bench and telephone box. Turn left onto the road which drops quickly towards Buxton and Llamas village. Follow the road to Buxton Mill (2) where a pathway sign points between buildings and takes the path back sharply to bring you out onto the other side of river,

This is a delightful section which keeps you on the bank of the river to your right. Follow the curve of the river where you will eventually come to Oxnead Bridge (3). Just over the bridge the path becomes a road that takes you past Oxnead Hall and just beyond is a signpost pointing right. Follow the dead straight path with horse paddocks on your right and you will eventually be brought out onto the Aylsham Road. Turn right over the bridge heading back towards Swanton Village.

Continue straight on at the crossroads but shorly after the second set of cross roads look for a footpath sign (4) pointing left over a ditch into fields. Leave the road here and after a short distance turn right through a gap in the hedge that leads onto a well defined path crossing a large field and heading towards St Michaels church. Follow the path until you reach the school where you turn right heading back down towards the village. Go past the Village Hall, straight on down The Street and at the Wesleyan chapel turn left into Cross Road and at the T junction turn right which will take you back to the Jolly Farmers.
