The weather was wonderful for a 30th Anniversary Open Day afternoon on August Bank Holiday. Folk flocked to visit, doubltless due to the publicity in the newspapers and Anglia T.V. The paddock was full of cars which overflowed onto the school car park and the field by the church.
Our helpers were marvelous and worked non-stop. The queues for the teas, hot dogs and the loo were endless! The "Ladies and the Dancing Dogs" were a great attraction and did an encore by popular demand!
Lots of 'our' dogs returned to see us; Sam and his owners travelled from Bedford. It was lovely to see them loved and happy - it makes it all worthwhile. It was nice to see so many folk from the village too. Thank you all for your support; we raised £2,200 during the day!
We still have Pepsi and Jack the pair of Terriers, several people have been interested but none were suitable. Gillie the chocolate labrador who had never been socialised has improved dramatically and goes to his new home in three weeks time. He has been going to his new owners for days out and even stayed over one night. They are going on holiday so Gillie will go permanently when they return.
A new challenge is a small 10 week old Staffordshire Bull Terrier with attitude! Bea was an unwanted gift, she is a real character and strong willed so needs a home with people who understand the breed and do not have children.
Two cats, brothers Chalkie and Bobby, went to a new home but sadly didn't settle. For two weeks the new owner did not even see them. They hid, probably behind the dishwasher. I searched the house myself and still couldn't find them. Eventually we set a cat-trap and caught them when they went in for food. Now they are back in their pen and seem very happy to be back. A third cat 'Thistle' settled in straight away and has taken over the household!
Two Guinea Pig boys found a nice home with a family who visited on Open afternoon...they came back the following week.
We had a card from a Springer Spaniel called 'Rex'. Rex was discharged from the army some years ago as he failed a screening test on his hips. His trainer contacted us to find him a pet home. Rex Joined the Garret Family in Sheringham an now has his own web site www.rexg.me.uk |
